Abiel A. Cooley

COOLEY, Abiel A., inventor, born in 1782; died in Hartford, Connecticut, 18 August, 1858. He was a physician, and invented improvements in friction-matches, an ingenious shingle-machine, and one of the first power-presses in use. He was also the first to apply the cam-movement to pumps.
