TANNEHILL, Adamson, soldier, born in Frederick county, Maryland, in 1752: died in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, 7 July, 1817. He received a public-school education, served in the Revolutionary war as captain of riflemen, removed to Pennsylvania, and cultivated a small farm near Pittsburg, where he served as justice of the peace. He opposed the whiskey insurrection. From 25 September till 31 December, 1812, he was brigadier-general of Pennsylvania volunteers He was then elected to congress as a Democrat, and served from 24 May, 1813, till 3 March, 1815.
