MAGRUDER, Allan Bowie, senator, born in Kentucky about 1775; died in Opelousas, Louisiana, 16 April, 1822. He received an academic education, studied law in Lexington, Kentucky, was admitted to the bar, and removed to Louisiana, where he was a member of the state house of representatives and was subsequently elected a United States senator as a Democrat, serving from 18 No'v., 1812, till 3 March, 1813. He was the author of "Reflections on the Cession of Louisiana" (Lexington, 1803), and "Character of Mr. Jefferson," and had collected material for a general history of the North American Indians, which was left unfinished.
