Andrew Sherburne

SHERBURNE, Andrew, sailor, born in Rye, New Hampshire, 30 September, 1765; died in Augusta, Oneida County, New York, in 1831. He sailed before the mast at an early age, was shipwrecked, captured by the British, confined in the Old Mill prison in England, and afterward became a Baptist clergyman. He received a pension for his services in the navy during the Revolution, and wrote his own "Memoirs" (Utica, 1828; 2d ed., Providence, 1831).
