Antonio del Rincon

RINCON, Antonio del (reen-con'), Mexican missionary, born in Tezcoco in 1541 ; died in San Martin, Texmelucan, 2 March, 1601. He entered the Jesuit order in Tepotzotlan in 1573, taught in their colleges of Mexico and Puebla, and afterward gave his life to the teaching and conversion of the natives. Although paralytic, he continued exercising his ministry, was carried by his converts from one village to the other, and died while preaching to the Indians. He wrote "Gramatica o Arte de la lengua Mexicana" (Mexico, 1595; reprinted by Antonio Pefiafiel, 1885).
