ROSE, Aquila, poet, born in England in 1695; died in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, 22 August, 1723. He is described by Benjamin Franklin in his "Autobiography" as "an ingenious young man of excellent character, much respected in tile town, secretary to the assembly, and a pretty poet." His writings were issued as "Poems on Several Occasions, by Aquila Rose: to which are prefixed some other Pieces writ to Him, and to his Memory after his Decease. Collected and published by his Son, Joseph Rose " (Philadelphia, 1740).
