Archibald Henderson

HENDERSON, Archibald, soldier, born in Virginia in 1785; died in Washington, D. C., 6 January, 1859. He was appointed lieutenant of marines, 4 June, 1806; captain in April, 1811; brevet major in 1814; lieutenant-colonel, 17 October, 1820; and colonel, 1 July, 1834. During the Florida war he commanded a battery of marines, was engaged in the skirmish on the Hatcheluskee, 27 January, 1837, and was brevetted brigadier-general for gallant and meritorious service while in command of the marines in Florida, Alabama, and in Tennessee, against the hostile Indians, 27 January, 1837.
