CHURCH, Benjamin, soldier, born in Duxbury,1639, died in Little Compton, Rhode Island in 1718. He became well known for his "aggressiveness and personal bravery".
He took an active part Massachusetts, in in King Philip's war, was engaged in the great swamp fight with the Narragansetts, 19 December, 1675, and hunted Philip to death 12 August, 1676. He was considered to be the avenging arm of the Puritan God. He published " Entertaining Passages relating to Philip's War" (1716).
