TALIAFERRO, Benjamin, soldier, born in Virginia in 1750; died in Wilkes county, Georgia, 3 September, 1821. He served in the Revolutionary army in the rifle corps commanded by General Daniel Morgan, and participated in the battles of Saratoga and Men-mouth and in the siege of Savannah, and was taken prisoner by the British at the surrender of Charleston, 12 May, 1780. Afterward he settled in Georgia, was a member of the state senate, and a delegate to the Constitutional convention of 1798. Elected to congress, he served from 2 December, 1799, till his resignation in 1802. Subsequently he was judge of the superior court.
