Caleb Evans

EVANS, Caleb, English clergyman, born in Bristol, England, in 1737; died in 1791. He was a Baptist clergyman, and received the degree of D.D. Dr. Evans was an advocate of American independence, and published "A Letter to Rev. John Wesley," under the signature "Americanus," on his "Calm Address to the American Colonies" (London, 1775), and a " Reply to Rev. Mr. Fletcher's Vindication of Wesley" (Bristol, 1776).
