CANNON, Charles James, author, born in New York City, 4 November, 1800; died there, 9 November, 1860. He was of Irish parentage, and wrote poems, dramas, and novels. Among his publications are " Poems, Dramatic and Miscellaneous" (New York, 1851); "Ravellings from the Web of Life" (1856); " Dramas" (1857); " Facts, Feelings, and Fan-ties," " The Poet's Quest," " Nora Carmody," and " Father Felix, a Catholic Story." His dramas in-elude "The Oath of Office," "Tighe Lifford," "The Crowning Hour," "The Sculptor's Daughter," " Better Late than Never," and " Dolores, a Tragedy." Mr. Cannon also compiled a " Practical English Spelling-Book" (New York, 1852) and a series of readers.
