CADY, Daniel, lawyer, born in Chatham, New York, 29 April, 1773; died in Johnstown, New York, 31 October, 1859. His education was acquired at the public schools, after which he learned the shoemaker's trade, but studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1795, and began practice in Johnstown. He was elected to the legislature in 1809, and returned until 1813, when he was elected to congress as a federalist, serving from 4 December, 1814, until 3 March, 1817. Resuming his law practice, he became a justice of the state Supreme Court in 1847, and served until 1855, when he resigned.
