THOMPSON, David, Canadian member of parliament, born in Wainfleet, Welland County, Ont., 7 December, 1836. His father, the son of a Scotchman, represented Haldimand from 1841 till 18,51. The son was educated at Upper Canada college, and became a flour and grain merchant. He represented Haldimand in the Canada Assembly from 1863 till the union, was elected to the Dominion parliament in 1867, re-elected by acclamation in 1872 and 1874, and chosen again in 1878 and 1882. He is actively connected with various financial and industrial organizations, is major of volunteers, a Liberal in politics, and favors a prohibitory liquor law.
