HYDE, Edward Wyllys, Engineer, born in Saginaw, Michigan, 17 October, 1843. He was graduated as a civil engineer at Cornell in 1872, and was instructor there in 1871-'3, after which he became a member of the faculty of the Pennsylvania Military Academy. In September, 1875, he was elected professor of mathematics and instructor in civil engineering in the University of Cincinnati, which chair he has since held. He is a member of scientific so-clerics and a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. Besides articles contributed to mathematical journals, he has published "Skew Arches" (New York, 1875).
