HUNTINGTON, Elisha Mills, jurist, born in Otsego county, New York, 26 March, 1806; died in St. Paul, Minnesota, 26 October, 1862. He removed to Vigo county, Indiana, in 1822, and was admitted to the bar of that state. In 1829 he was appointed by the legislature prosecuting attorney of his circuit, and in 1831 was elected a member of the legislature. On leaving the legislature after two re-elections, he was chosen president-judge of his circuit, and in 1841 was appointed commissioner of the general land office at Washington. In May, 1842, he was appointed a judge of the United States district court for Indiana, which office he held till his death.
