BOGART, Elizabeth, poet, born in New York city about 1806. She was a daughter of the Rev. David S. Bogart, and contributed to periodicals, chiefly the New York "Mirror," under the pep-name of " Estelle," her first pieces appearing m 1825. Specimens of her poetry are reprinted in Griswold's "Female Poets of America." She wrote two prize stories, entitled "The Effect of a Single Folly" and "The Forged Note," evincing constructive ability; but " He Came too Late," and other poems, were her most admired productions.
