BISCACCIANTI, Eliza (OSTINELLI), vocalist, born in Boston in 1825. Louis Ostinelli, her father, leader of orchestras, married, in April 1822, the daughter of Mr. Hewett, a musical composer of Boston. Eliza went to Italy in 1843, studied under the best masters, married Signor Biscaccianti, also a musician, and in May 1847, made her first appearance at Milan with success. She made her debut in America at the Astor place opera-house, New York, in February 1848, and in Philadelphia, 1 March 1848, at the Chestnut street theatre, as Lucia. She sang in the principal cities of the United States with success, and became an especial favorite in California.
