HOWARTH, Ellen Clementine, poet, born in Cooperstown, New York, 20 May, 1827. Her maiden name was Doran. She left school at seven years of age to work in a factory, married Joseph Howarth in 1846, and has since resided in Trenton, New Jersey Mrs. Howarth has published "The Wind-Harp, and other Poems" (Philadelphia, 1864), and " Poems," with an introduction by Richard Watson Gilder (Newark, New Jersey, 1868). Her best-known poem is "Thou wilt never grow Old."
