HIBBARD, Ellery Albee, jurist, born in St. Johnsbury, Vermont, 31 July, 1826. He obtained an academic education by his own efforts, studied law in Haverhill and Exeter, New Hampshire, was admitted to the bar in July, 1849, and practised in Plymouth, New Hampshire, till 1853, and subsequently in Laconia, New Hampshire He was a member of the New Hampshire house of representatives in 1865-'6, and was elected a representative in congress from New Hampshire by the Democrats and Labor Reformers in 1870. After the conclusion of his term he became judge of the supreme court of New Hampshire, but in 1874 declined re-appointment under the revised laws, and returned to his practice.
