MESLIN, Etienne Edouard (may-lang), French explorer, born in Marseilles in 1751; died in Paris in 1812. He was employed on scientific missions in the West Indies and South America between 1779 and 1791, and published, among other works, "Sta-tistique de Pile de Tabago" (Paris, 1781) ; "Histoire de la domination francaise h Pile Grenade et aux Grenadilles" (1784); "Journal d'un voyage h tra-vers le royaume de la Nouvelle Espagne" (1794); "La race Latine dans l'Amdrique du Sud" (1799); and "La domination espagnole dans l'Amerique du Sud, etudide au point de rue de la race Indienne" (2 vols., 1804).
