WARRINER, Francis, clergyman, born in Springfield, Massachusetts, 24 November, 1805; died in Chester, Massachusetts, 22 April, 1866. He was graduated at Amherst in 1830, and in 1831-'4 was chaplain mid teacher of mathematics and navigation to midshipmen on the frigate "Potomac," which was one of a squadron that was sent to protect American seamen in the Indian archipelago. On his return he studied theology in New Haven and New York, was pastor over the Congregational church in Chester in 1841-'8, and again in 1859-'65, when he resigned on account of failing health. He was the author of "The Cruise of the Potomac" (New York, 1835).
