HUDSON, Frederic, journalist, born in Quincy, Massachusetts, in 1819; died in Concord, Massachusetts, 21 October, 1875. After receiving a limited education in the common schools of Concord and Boston, Massachusetts, he removed to New York city in 1836, and, entering the office of the "Herald," rose through the various grades till he became managing editor of that journal. After a connection of nearly thirty years with the "Herald," he retired in April, 1866, and resided in Concord, Massachusetts, until his death. He was the author of "Journalism in the United States from 1690 till 1872" (New York, 1873).
