Friedrieh Hassaurek

HASSAUREK, Friedrieh, journalist, born in Vienna, Austria, 9 October, 1832; died in Paris, France, 3 October, 1885. He served in the student legion in the German revolution of 1848, and was twice wounded. He came to the United States in 1848, settled in Cincinnati, Ohio, and engaged in journalism, politics, and the practice of law. He was United States minister to Ecuador in 1861-'5, and during the latter year became editor of the Cincinnati "Volksblatt." He published "Four Years among the Spanish-Americans" (New York, 1868).
