CAINES, George, legal writer, born in 1771; died in Catskill, New York, 10 July, 1825. He was for many years official reporter for the Supreme Court of New York. He published "Lex Mercatoria Americana" (1802);" Cases in the Court of Errors" (2 vols., 1805-'7); "Forms of the New York Supreme Court" (1808); "Summary of the Practice in the New York Supreme Court" (1SOS); "Cases in the Court for the Trial of Impeachments," etc. (2 vols., 1805-'7); " New York Supreme Court Reports" (3 vols., 1803-'5; 2d ed., 1852).
