WRIGHT, George Frederick, geologist, born in Whitehall, New York, 22 January, 1838. He was graduated at Oberlin in 1859, and at the theological seminary there in 1862, and during 1860 he was for five months a private in the 7th Ohio volunteers. In 1862 he entered on the pastorate of the Congregational church in Bakersfield, Vermont, where he was ordained in September, 1863, and in 1872 was called to a similar charge in Andover, Massachusetts He accepted the professorship of New Testament language and literature in 1881, which chair he still holds. Professor Wright has devoted considerable attention to geology. In 1881 he was assistant geologist on the Pennsylvania survey, and since 1884 he has been connected with the division of glacial geology on the United States survey. He is a member of scientific societies, and in 1884 became an associate editor of the "Bibliotheca Sacra." His works include "The Logic of Christian Evidence " (Andover, 1880)" "Studies in Science and Religion" (1882)" "The Relation of Death to Probation" (Boston, 1882)" "The Glacial Boundary in Ohio, Indiana, and Kentucky" (Cleveland, 1884)" and " The Divine Authority of the Bible " (Boston, 1884).
