TROTTER, George, soldier, born in Virginia in 1779; died in Lexington, Kentucky, 13 October, 1815. His father, Lieutenant-Colonel James Trotter, was a soldier in the Revolution. The son entered the army in 1812, at the beginning of the second war with Great Britain, as a captain in a volunteer company of dragoons, was wounded in action with the Indians under Colonel John B. Campbell on 18 December of that year, became lieutenant-colonel of Kentucky volunteers in 1813, and led a brigade from his state, with rank of brigadier-general, at the battle of the Thames, 5 October, 1813.
