QUINBY, George Washington, clergyman, born in Westbrook, Maine, 20 December, 1810; died in Augusta, Maine, 10 January, 1884. He was educated in his native village and in the academies of Parsonsfield and North Bridgton, Maine, studied for the ministry, and in 1835 began to preach in Poland, Maine. He was subsequently pastor of Universalist churches in Livermore, North Yarmouth, and Saco, Maine, Taunton, Massachusetts, and Cincinnati, Ohio. He was editor of the "Star in the West" for several years, subsequently of the " Trumpet" and the "Freeman," and in 1864-'84 of the "Gospel Banner," all organs of the Universalist church. His publications include "The Salvation of Christ" (Cincinnati, 1852) ; "Brief Exposition and Defence of Universalism" (1854) ; "Marriage and the Duties of the Marriage Relation: Six Lectures" (1856); "The Gallows, the Prison, and the Poor-House" (1857) ; and "Heaven Our Home" (1860).
