CURTIS, Harvey, clergyman, born in Adams, Jefferson County, New York, 30 May 1806; died in Galesburg, Illinois, 18 September 1862. He was graduated at Middle-bury, in 1831, with the highest honors of his class, and studied for the next three years at Princeton theological seminary. He was licensed to preach by Troy presbytery, and, on 18 February 1836, was ordained pastor of the Congregational Church in Brandon, Vermont. In 1841 he accepted an appointment from the American home missionary society as their agent for Ohio and Indiana, and from 1843 till 1858 held pastorates in Madison, Indiana, and Chicago, Ill. He was chosen president of Knox College, at Galesburg, Ii1., in 1858.
