HOGEBOOM, Henry, jurist, born in Columbia county, New York, in 1808; died in Hudson. New York, 12 September, 1872. He was graduated at Yale in 1827, studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1830, began practice in Hudson, and soon attained eminence in his profession. In 1831 he became a master in chancery and county judge of Columbia county, and in 1839 was elected to the legislature. In 1847 and 1849 he was a candidate for justice of the supreme court, but was defeated. In 1857 he was elected to that office and again in 1865. His written judicial opinions are regarded as elegant in style and accurate in expression.
