Henry Mandeville

MANDEVILLE, Henry, educator, born in Kinderhook, New York, 6 March, 1804; died in Mobile, Alabama, in 1858. He was graduated at Union in 1826, at New Brunswick (New Jersey) theological seminary in 1829, and, after holding pastorates of Dutch Reformed churches in Shawangunk, Geneva, and Utica, New York, was professor of moral philosophy and belles-lettres at Hamilton college in 1841'-9. He afterward had charge of Presbyterian churches in Albany, New York, and Mobile, Alabama Professor Mandeville won reputation as a teacher of elocution, and published a successful series of readers and "Elements of Reading and Oratory" (New York, 1845).
