HIDALGO, Ignacio Xavier, clergyman, born in
Valladolid de Michoacán. Mexico, 28 November, 1698; died in Puebla de Los
Angeles in 1759. He entered the Jesuit order, 15 June, 1717, and was appointed
director of the congregation of San Salvador in Mexico. He wrote "La Nueva Ruth:
elogio de la inclita Matrona Doña Maria Rosa de la Peña," (Mexico, 1754), and "Ochenta
y cinco Sermones Morales," the manuscript of which is in the library of the
University of Mexico.
