WALKER, Isaac P, senator, born in Virginia in 1813; died in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, 1 April, 1872. He adopted the profession of law, removed to Wisconsin in 1841, practised in Milwaukee, and took an active part in early political events in the state. He served in the territorial congress in 1847-'8, and in the latter year was chosen to the United States senate as an Anti-slavery Democrat. His policy in that body was deemed timid by his constituents, for, although he wished to preserve the Union, he did not properly represent their attitude on the Wilmot proviso. He was not returned in the next election, retired from politics, and resumed the practice of law.
