P00LEY, James Henry, physician, born in Chateris, Cambridgeshire, England, 17 November, 1839. He was brought to this country in early childhood, and graduated at the New York college of physicians and surgeons in 1860. After service as an assistant surgeon in the regular army in 1861-'3 he practised in Yonkers, New York, till 1875, when he removed to Columbus, Ohio. He is a member of many professional societies, was a delegate to the International medical congress of 1876, and professor of surgery in Starling medical college, Ohio, from 1875 till 1880. Since 1883 he has held the chair of surgery in Toledo medical college. He has edited the "Ohio Medical and Surgical Journal" since 1876, and has been a voluminous contributor to surgical literature. Several of his articles have been reprinted in pamphlet-form, including " Three Cases of Imperforate Anus" (1870); "Remarks on the Surgery of Childhood" (1872); and "Gastrotomy and Gastrostomy" (1875).
