James Winslow

WINSLOW, James, banker, born in Connecticut in 1816 ; died in New York city, 18 July, 1874. After having been employed in the hardware-store of Erastus Corning in Albany, he removed to New York and, after following the hardware business for several years, entered the banking-firm of Winslow, Lanier and Co., which had been established by his brother and his father-in-law, and which rendered important services to the government during the administration of President Lincoln in connection with war loans. He was subsequently identified with the rise of national banks, and was connected as an officer with several.
