DAOUST, Jean Baptist, Canadian politician, born inst. Eustaehe, Quebec, 18 January 1817. After haying been magistrate, commissioner, and municipal officer, he was elected by acclamation in 1854, for Two Mountains, to the old parliament of Canada, in which he held his seat until the confederation of the provinces in 1867, when he was elected to the House of Commons by acclamation. In 1872 he retired for a short time from political life. In 1876 he was re-elected to the House of Commons by acclamation, being chosen again at the general election in 18'78, and again in 1882. He is a conservative.
