ROUX DE ROCHELLE, Jean Baptiste Gaspard (roo), French historian, born in Lous-le-Saulnier in 1762; died in Paris in March, 1849. He was consul at New York in 1822-'4, and minister to the United States from 1830 till 1833. Hls works include "Les Turiages," a poem (Paris, 1816) ;." La Byzanciade," a poem (1822); ', Lettres des Etats-Unis" (1835);" Histoire des Etats-Unis " (2 vols., 1836) , and "Epopde de Fernan Cortes," a poetical history of the conquest of Mexico.
