HURD, John Codman, author, born in Boston, Massachusetts, 11 November, 1816. He was educated at Columbia and at Yale, where he was graduated in 1836. Mr. Hurd has travelled extensively in Egypt, Japan, China, and India, and now (1887) resides in Boston. He is the author of "The Law of Freedom and Bondage in the United States "(2 vols., Boston, 1858-'62), and "The Theory of our National Existence as shown by the Action of the Government of the United States since 1861" (1881).
