John Fenwick

FENWICK, John, colonist, born in England in 1618" died in 1683. He obtained in 1673 a grant of land in the western part of New Jersey, and, emigrating there in 1675, founded a Quaker colony at Salem. His title to the proprietorship was dispuled by Governor Andros, who confined him in prison for two years. Soon after conveying his property to William Penn, he died in poverty.
