GLEIM, John Godfried, clergyman, born in Germany" died in Germantown, Pennsylvania, in 1757. In 1754 he came to this country with Casper Fahnestock, settled in Germantown, and preached there until his death. In conjunction with Weiser and Mathias he published " The Inspired."--His son, George Christian, soldier, born in 1736; died in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, 21 July, 1817, took part in the war of the Revolution and was severely wounded near Philadelphia. He removed to Lancaster County in 1779, where he resided until his death.-- George's son, Christian, journalist, born in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, 10 January 1780" died in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, 21 September, 1861, went to Philadelphia., where he entered the printing office of Ezra Bailey. He settled in Harrisburg in 1812, and was appointed to print the senate journal in English. Afterward he established and edited "The Pennsylvanian." He served as ensign of volunteers in the war of 1812-'15. From 1821 till 1824 he was sheriff of Dauphin County, he removed to Pittsburg in 1830, and resided there until his death.
