BROCKWAY, John Hall, lawyer, born in Ellingten, Connecticut, 31 January, 1801; died there, 29 July, 1870. He was graduated at Yale in 1820, taught school for a short time, studied law, was admitted to the bar of New Haven in 1823, and opened an office in his native town. In 1832 and in 1838 he was a member of the lower branches of the state legislature, and in 1834 a state senator. From 2 December, 1839, till 3 March, 1843, he was a representative from Connecticut in congress. He was appointed district attorney for the county of Tolland in 1849, and held that office by successive reappointments until April, 1867, when he resigned.
