HARING, John, born in Goshen, New York, 14 June, 1748; died 14 January, 1810. He was a delegate from New York to the Continental congress from 1774 till 1775, and from 1785 till 1788. On 27 July, 1767, he voted in favor of a motion providing that the minister plenipotentiary of the United States at the court of France be directed to form a confederacy with the powers of Europe that were at war with Tunis, Algiers, and Tripoli, for the purpose of protecting the subjects of the contracting parties in the free navigation of the Mediterranean" and on 13 October, 1787, opposed the motion expressing the friendly regards of congress for the king of Spain.
