WIDDIFIELD, John Henry, Canadian physician, born in Whitchurch, Ontario, 12 June, 1812. He was graduated as a physician and surgeon at the Royal college of surgeons, England, the Royal college of physicians, Edinburgh, Victoria university, Canada, and the College of physicians and surgeons of Ontario, and established himself in practice in Newmarket, Ontario. He received the Reform nomination for the Dominion parliament in 1874, and again in 1882, but declined on both occasions. He was elected to the legislature of Ontario in 1875, re-elected in 1879, 1883, and 1886, and was ministerial "whip" under the Mowat government from 1877 till 1883, when he resigned.
