HOOPER, John, botanist, born in Oxford, England, in 1802; died in Brooklyn, New York, 26 April, 1869. He came to the United States in 1839, and devoted himself to natural science. In conjunction with Professor Jacob W. Bailey of West Point, and Professor William H.
