SHIRLEY, John Milton, lawyer, born in Sanborn-ton, New Hampshire, 16 November, 1831; died in Andover, New Hampshire, 21 May, 1887. He was educated at Sanbornton and the Northfield conference seminary, studied law, and was admitted to the bar in 1854. He represented Andover in the legislature in 1859-'60, and was postmaster of that place from 1856 till 1869. He published "The Early Jurisprudence of New Hampshire" ; "Complete History of the Dartmouth College Case"; "Reports of Cases in the Supreme Judicial Court," vols. 49-54 (Concord, 1872-'5); and "Reports of Cases in the Superior Court of Judicature," vol. 55 (1876).
