John Norris

NORRIS, John, benefactor, born in Salem, Massachusetts, 10 June, 1748; died in Salem, Massachusetts, 22 December, 1808. He was for many years a merchant in Salem and a member of the Massachusetts senate. He was one of the founders of Andover theological seminary and a large contributor to benevolent and religious enterprises.--His widow, MARY, bequeathed in 1811 $30,000 to Andover seminary and a similar sum to foreign missions.
