SHERMAN, John, clergyman, born in Dedham, England, 26 December, 1618" died in Watertown, Massachusetts, 8 August, 1685. He was educated at Cambridge, where he was called a "College Puritan," came to New England in 1634, and preached in Watertown in the open air. After continuing for some time in Connecticut, he was chosen a magistrate of that colony.
