TALIAFERRO, John, member of congress, born in Spottsylvania county, Virginia, in 1768; died at "Hagley," King George County, Virginia, 12 August, 1858. He was elected to congress from Virginia as a Democrat, serving from 1801 till 1803, and from 18ll till 1818. He was again chosen to fill a vacancy in 1824, and served from 8 April of that year till 3 March, 1831, and again from 1835 till 1848. He was a presidential elector in 1805 on the Jefferson ticket and in 1821 on the Monroe ticket, and served as librarian of the treasury department in Washington in 1850-'3.
