CAMPBELL, John Wilson, jurist, born in Augusta county, Virginia, 23 February, 1782 ; died in Delaware. Ohio, 24 September, 1833. His parents removed to Kentucky, and afterward to Ohio. Young Campbell received a common-school education, was admitted to the bar in 1808, and began practice in West Union, Ohio. He held several local offices, was prosecuting attorney for Adams and Highland cos., and a member of the Ohio legislature. He was chosen to congress as a democrat, served from 1 December, 1817, till 3 March, 1827, and was United States judge for the district of Ohio from 1829 till his death.
