HOADLEY, Loammi Ires, clergyman, born in Northford, Connecticut, 25 October, 1790; died in Shelton, Connecticut, 21 March, 1883. He was graduated at Yale in 1817, and at the Andover theological seminary in 1820. He was ordained. 15 October, 1823, was pastor of an orthodox Congregational church at Worcester, Massachusetts, in 1823-'30, and subsequently had charge of several churches in New England. After 1866 he was pastor at New Haven. He was assistant editor of the "Comprehensive Commentary of the Bible," edited the sixth volume of "Spirit of the Pilgrims" and many publications of the Massachusetts Sabbath school society, and contributed to various religious periodicals.
