YOUNG, Loyal, clergyman, born in Charlemont, Massachusetts, 1 July, 1806. He was graduated at Jefferson college in 1828, and at the Western theological seminary, Alleghany City, Pennsylvania, in 1832, was licensed to preach by the Ohio presbytery on 21 July of that year, and installed at the same time as pastor of the church at Butler, Pennsylvania He remained in this relation till 1868, then was pastor of the church at French Creek, West Virginia, for eight years, and for five years had charge of one at Parkersburg, West Virginia, after which he labored as a missionary for four years in Winfield, West Virginia The degree of D. D. was given him by Washington college in 1858. He has been a trustee of Washington college and of the Western theological seminary. Dr. Young is the author of " Interviews with Inspired Men" (Pitts-burg, 1857); " Commentary on the Book of Ecclesiastes" (Philadelphia, 1866); " From Dawn to Dusk, a Pastor's Panorama" (Claremont, New Hampshire, 1884); and " Ecce Diluvium, or Noah's Account of the Flood" (Washington, Pennsylvania, 1887).
